[A to Z] H = The House of the Devil

THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL is a unique horror film because it was made in 2009 but it was made to intentionally resemble the horror films from the 1970s and 1980s.  The film also includes opening text claiming it was based on true events similar to other films of that era such as The Amityville Horror or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  The "satanic panic" of the 1980s is also used in an effective manner in this film.

I received THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL as a gift.  I had heard of the movie but I had never seen it; really did not know anything at all about the film.  I was working a lot of mandatory overtime so I had to wait to watch the film.  Work demands calmed down weeks later and I watched the film.  THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL is very well done.  It does a great job of recreating the look and feel of the slasher and haunted house movies of that time.  Definitely recommended.

  1. I was just thinking about this the other day, wondering if there were any more recently made horror films that tried for that 80s feel. I've added it to my watch list!

  2. Ooh, neat. I love that 80s horror feel, so maybe I should check this one out!
The Convent also felt 80s, and was made in 2000, so... maybe check that one out, Katherine?

...and I just realized that my comments here are in no way linked to my blog, so I'm just going to put that info here...

    1. I don't care what anybody says - the 80s is one of the top times for horror movies. Ooh, I'll check out The Convent. Good call. Your blog is cool!
